Knowledge base for online franchise marketing

Six practical guides for head offices and franchise marketers, channel by channel and measurable.

By Gijs Bodenstaff · Updated:

In this knowledge base you will find six guides on online marketing for franchise brands with multiple locations. Each guide answers one practical question, from visibility in ChatGPT to recruiting franchisees. According to the NFV, the Netherlands had 936 franchise brands with a combined 34,937 locations in reference year 2025: the same basic rules apply to all of those locations.

Which articles are in the knowledge base?

The guides are written for whoever handles a franchise brand's marketing: the marketing manager at head office, the management team or a franchise marketer who wants to get started themselves. You do not need technical knowledge.

The articles are based on our books and research: three books (Dutch-language editions) on local search visibility for franchise chains and a benchmark of 500 profiles at the hundred largest chains.

Overview of knowledge base topics for franchise marketing: AI visibility, map services, social media, measuring with KPIs and online recruitment
The topics in the knowledge base, from AI visibility to recruitment.

AI assistants and your franchise brand

Customers and candidates increasingly ask an AI assistant for advice. Read how AI assistants recommend franchise brands and which signals count.

Three map services

Google Maps is not the only map. In how the three map platforms differ you see what Google, Apple Business Connect and Bing Places offer per location.

Social media centrally or per location

Does every location need its own Instagram account? The guide on posting centrally or locally helps you choose, with the latest user figures per platform.

Measuring what works

Which figures belong in a monthly report? KPIs for online franchise marketing lists the metrics for head office and locations.

Recruiting candidates online

From advert to introductory meeting: the funnel for prospective franchisees shows how to find and qualify candidates online.

Local search visibility per location

A practical list to check every location. Use a local SEO checklist per location for every new location and at every review.

Questions about the knowledge base

Who is the knowledge base for?
For marketing managers and management teams of franchise organisations, and for franchise marketers who handle a franchise brand's online marketing. The guides assume a brand with multiple locations and a head office that sets the framework. Franchisees can also get a lot out of them, especially the local SEO checklist.
How often are the knowledge base articles updated?
We update the articles when sources change, for example with new NFV figures, a new edition of the Nationale Social Media Onderzoek or new features in a map service. The date of the last update is shown at the top of each article, so you can see how current the information is.
May I share the guides with franchisees?
Yes, you may share a link to the articles with franchisees, colleagues or your marketing team. The local SEO checklist is actually intended to be worked through per location. Do not copy the text onto your own site, but link to the page so everyone always reads the latest version.
Where do the figures in the articles come from?
From public sources such as the NFV franchise statistics, the Nationale Social Media Onderzoek 2026 (Dutch national social media survey) and information from Apple and Microsoft about their map services. We also use our own research: the Local SEO Benchmark Franchise Chains 2026 by LocalSEOLab.nl and Stichting LODAK. Sources are listed under each article.
Is the knowledge base also suitable for small franchise brands?
Yes. According to the NFV, about 80% of franchise brands are SMEs, with at most 50 locations. The guides are therefore kept practical. You can use the local SEO checklist and the KPI article just as well with three locations as with thirty. Only the scale of implementation differs.
Do the articles give legal advice on franchising?
No. Where we mention the Dutch Franchise Act, for example when recruiting franchisees, we only explain which disclosure obligation applies to the franchisor. Have your contract and recruitment process reviewed by a franchise lawyer; this is not legal advice. The guides are about online marketing and measurability.
Which knowledge base article helps fastest to improve visibility?
Usually the local SEO checklist. In our benchmark, only 40% of Google Business Profiles were fully completed. Filling in missing fields, aligning details and answering reviews are steps you can take quickly per location. After that, it pays to look at Apple Maps and Bing Places.
Can I suggest a topic for the knowledge base?
Yes, please do. Email your question to info@franchiseseo.nl or send a WhatsApp message to 06 - 38 04 83 47. Questions that come up repeatedly among head offices and franchise marketers are worked up into a new article. That way the knowledge base grows along with what is happening in practice.
Why doesn't the knowledge base name any franchise brands?
We do not name franchise brands, clients or rankings, because the guides are about approach, not about who is doing well or badly. Where an example helps, we use a fictional franchise brand and say so. That keeps the worked examples clear without you confusing them with real results.
How does the knowledge base relate to the services pages?
The knowledge base explains how something works, so you can do it yourself or assess it better. The services pages describe what we carry out for you per channel and how we measure it. So you can read a guide first and then decide whether to handle it in-house or outsource it.
